<p><b>Valentine&#8217;s Day / </b> <b>Saint Valentine&#8217;s Day</b> or the <b>Feast of Saint Valentine</b> is an annual celebration of love, romance and friendship – on 14 February. Originally, it was a Western Christian feast day (not a large meal) established in honour of one or two early saints named Valentinus. The spiritual connotation of Valentine&#8217;s Day is a significant factor. Valentine&#8217;s Day is an important and popular cultural, religious and commercial celebration of love around the world.</p>

<p>Firstly, sort out and energise the love/relationship of your home/apartment/bedroom. The love/relationship area of your bedroom, according to the Bagua model, is the top right-hand corner of the door. Make sure there is no clutter here. Keep this area vibrant, alive and sexy. For example, feng shui remedies for energising your love/relationship corner are: light (lamps, not candles), crystals (add sparkle), plants (help to grow the relationship), meaningful images which represent love (e.g. hearts / a couple kissing / the word &#8216;LOVE&#8217; / a pair of doves, pairs of things, etc) help to inspire love and harmonious relationships.</p>

<p><strong>How to locate your love/relationship/marriage area in your bedroom according to the Bagua model<br />
</strong>It&#8217;s in the top right corner of the door. But if you can&#8217;t do anything there because you have wardrobes, etc. – don&#8217;t worry, as long as you have some energies of love, partnership, marriage, etc. in your bedroom, it will work virtually, symbolically and archetypically. Above all, your intention is the most crucial aspect of this process. Don&#8217;t obsess about one area of your bedroom regarding this love corner – you want the vibration of love everywhere!</p>

<p><a href="https://www.fengshuilondon.net/research-feng-shui/">I&#8217;m doing PhD research</a> on feng shui, and specifically on bedrooms and workplaces. Bedrooms are the most important rooms in our homes where we spend 1/3 of our lives.</p>
<p>After sorting out the love/relationship vibration of your bedroom, follow these feng shui tips to optimise the energies of your bedroom:<br />
<strong><br />
Wooden beds and foam mattresses<br />
</strong>The most important piece of furniture in your home is your bed.  A wooden frame with a solid headboard and a good mattress<span style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">, without metal springs (ideally an <a href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/feng-shui-for-bedroom/feng-shui-bed-top-tip-on-how-to-feng-shui-your-bed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">organic foam mattress</a>), should be replaced every few years, especially when moving</span> to a new home. Avoid metal beds and metal spring mattresses, which can amplify electrosmog.</p>
<p><strong>Minimise electrosmog and dirty electricity<br />
</strong>Switch off wifi for the night and don&#8217;t have too many electrical devices in your bedroom to minimise dirty electricity, which can constantly irradiate spikes of intermediate frequency electric fields, which can have serious health effects, according to research. Minimising environmental stress will help with your sleep, health, and, consequently, your love life. <p><strong>Sleep in total darkness<br />
</strong>If you don&#8217;t sleep in total darkness and there is a bit of light in your bedroom, your melatonin production won&#8217;t work well, and you won&#8217;t sleep, which will affect your health and mood. Wifi affects melatonin production, so make sure you switch it off for the night – every night.</p>

Sleeping on geopathic stress can affect your sleep and your relationship. Consult your feng shui consultant to determine whether your bedroom is free of geopathic stress. </strong>P<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">lace your bed in a power position (in relation to the door and windows – see the chart above), making sure you have a view of the door as you lie in bed so that you can feel secure. If that&#8217;s not possible, place some reflective objects or a small mirror opposite the bed so you can see what&#8217;s behind you (if the door is behind you).</span><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><br />

<p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Mirrors<br />
</strong>I<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">f you have mirrors in your bedroom, round or oval ones are the best shape (see the tip on flowing lines and shape below). Position the mirrors so that you cannot see yourself when lying in bed. One problem with having a mirror in your bedroom is that, if you&#8217;re not sleeping in total darkness, it can reflect light, which can disrupt melatonin production, which is key to healthy sleep.<br />
</span><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;"><br />
Materials<br />
</strong>N<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">atural materials such as cotton, wool, linen and silk are best. Avoid synthetic materials. Silk is sensual. Hemp has fractal qualities that help maintain good vibrations.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Images and symbols<br />
</strong></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Have fun, relaxing and meaningful images and symbols around to remind yourselves and prime yourselves about what you want and what is important to you, as well as the good times you&#8217;ve both had so far.<br />

<p><strong>Side tables<br />
</strong>A (matching)<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> table on each side of the bed with lamps, etc., will create a balanced and secure environment for your relationship. If you like variety and difference, have tables that are not the same. Make sure the table on the right side (when looking at the bed) is higher if the table heights differ.<br />
</span></p>
<p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Working in bedrooms<br />
</strong>Avoid work or work-related objects, anything that represents work, and too many books. Ideally, bedrooms should be places for rest and love. But if, for whatever reason, your bedroom needs to serve another function, don&#8217;t worry. Make sure there is a clear distinction between different modes of living and working. Have a ritual for going to sleep to shift into a sleeping mode. Research suggests that when people pray before going to sleep, they have better sleep and are happier and healthier than those who don&#8217;t.</p>

<p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Colours<br />
</strong>R<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">omantic pastels and relaxing colours are the best. Avoid blue or cold colours, as they can be overly calming. If you already have blue walls, just add touches of red or pink, for example, a cushion cover, as a symbol of passion and &#8216;fire&#8217; energy; however, don’t overdo it. <a href="https://www.fengshuilondon.net/cloud-dancer-pantones-2026-colour-of-the-year-and-its-feng-shui-significance-for-the-fire-horse-year/">The colour of 2026 is Cloud Dancer.</a></span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><strong>Wardrobes and drawers<br />
</strong></span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Clutter is detrimental to relationships – it clouds your clarity and diminishes and stagnates your energy. Not to mention, it is stressful to look at it. Also, it can create dust and air pollution, which can make you ill. Do a detox on your wardrobes and drawers. Keep it simple, just spend 5-15 minutes per wardrobe and ask yourself: 1) Do I need it, will I use it? 2) Do I love it? You know what to do next. Decluttering, especially during transition times, is cathartic and therapeutic. I do the decluttering ritual regularly around Xmas, New Year, Valentine&#8217;s Day, my birthday, and the equinoxes and solstices, or any time I feel stuck and want positive change.<br />
</span></p>
<p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Sick Building Syndrome (SBS)<br />
</strong><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">SBS includes geopathic stress (GS), electromagnetic fields (EMF) and dirty electricity (DE) &#8211; all of which can create a lot of electro-pollution in your bedroom. Keep electrical gadgets to a minimum and switch them off for the night if possible, as they will all create electromagnetic radiation, which can affect how well you sleep. Geopathic stress can disrupt a harmonious relationship. If you suspect that you might have GS,<a href="http://www.helios3.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> get Helios3 device</a>.</span></p>
<p><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Beams, sloping ceilings, light fittings and cupboards above the bed<br />
</strong>A<span style="line-height: 1.5em;">ll of these will create an uneasy feeling because, subconsciously, we feel unsafe when things are hanging over our heads. Position your bed away from these, where possible. Or hang a lightweight material, such as muslin, to conceal the beams. You can also hang lightweight objects, such as balloons, feathers, and paper mobiles, to counter the oppressive energy of the beams.<br />
</span></p>
<p><strong>Vision board for your love life<br />
</strong>A very effective way to visualise what you want and your values is to use vision boards. Vision boards work by priming your non-conscious mind to perceive, notice and grasp opportunities and what you want in life. Make a list of your top relationship values and find images that represent them. If you can&#8217;t find images, words are enough to start with. Place your vision board near your bed, so you can see it before you go to sleep to prime your subconscious mind. Review it from time to time – we change and so our values. It&#8217;s good to start fresh, on important transition dates, i.e. the New Year, birthdays, equinoxes and solstices, to write them down again. The act of writing it down primes your brain and your soul for what you want.</p>
<p><strong>Which side of the bed do women need to sleep on?<br />
</strong>Traditionally, most women sleep on the side farthest from the door, so the husband/partner acts as a protective barrier. Women with kids tend to sleep near the door for obvious practical reasons. There is also another consideration, i.e. a preference for how one likes to lie in bed, on which side of the body. Research suggests that lying on one&#8217;s left side is better for the detoxification process, which happens during sleep, since the liver won&#8217;t be squashed. <h2><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">3) Love and harmonious relationship images and symbolism (and for Valentine&#8217;s Day)</span><br />
</strong></h2>
<p><strong>Symbols of love<br />
</strong>Choose symbols that will enhance love, peaceful and fun relationships.  Avoid solitary pictures, images, objects and stark landscapes as well as anything that potentially might be unfriendly, such as cactuses, especially near the front door. Choose images of happy people, couples, animals, soft and romantic, uplifting scenes, as well as round objects which symbolise wholeness and unity. Everything in your love zone carries semiotic connotations. Learn how to read them. Make sure everything works in your love/relationship area and that there is no clutter there. In short, clarity and focus are essential for a harmonious relationship.</p>
<p><strong>Red colour<br />
</strong>The colour red (fire element) symbolises passion and love. Add small accents of red to your bedroom. For centuries, red flowers and red underwear have been used to ignite passion and love. However, candles are not recommended since they produce air pollution. <strong><br />
</strong></p>
<p><strong>Flowing lines and shapes<br />
</strong>Flowing, curvaceous lines and oval, round shapes &#8211; which encourage more harmony, romance and love &#8211; are preferred by most people (see my <a title="Environmental Psychology" href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/environmental-psychologist-london-uk">Environmental Psychology research into how shapes affect us</a>). Square and angular/sharp shapes and edges create uneasy feelings and, in feng shui, are referred to as cutting energy or shar chi/energy. To add extra harmony to your relationship, have some photos of you both together in oval or round frames with a single unbroken line, like a wedding ring.</p>
<p><strong>Soft materials<br />
</strong>Soft, delicate materials and furnishings are more relaxing than hard, shiny ones, and use natural materials. Likewise, have many soft (e.g., silk) colourful cushions.</p>

<h2><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>4) Connect with the archetypal energy of love and St. Valentine&#8217;s Day<br />
</strong></span></h2>
<p><strong>Prime yourself with images and words – place them in the love/relationship corner<br />
</strong>The best way to keep the focus on what you want is to prime your brain for success with words and images. Represent your key values with words and even better pictures. There are hundreds of studies on the benefits of priming. Feng shui&#8217;s main function is to prime you for success with physical symbols and images. For added anchoring, place relevant images and symbols in the love/relationship areas of your bedroom, home, and even your desk.</p>
<p><strong>Use a favourite image or photo that represents love to you; if you&#8217;re in a relationship, both of you will do<br />
</strong>Use meaningful images or photos as your mobile wallpaper. Images are one of the best ways to prime your mind for success.</p>
<p><strong>Celebrate Valentine&#8217;s Day in your special way – big or small<br />
</strong>Even if you&#8217;re not in a relationship, use that day to contemplate what kind of relationship you&#8217;d like to have. Research (speed dating studies) suggests that people don&#8217;t know what kind of partner they want. Shared values are important, and so is commitment. Also, attachment theory suggests that being with somebody secure will make you feel secure, and your relationship is more likely to be successful. But start with yourself – work on feeling secure (read below about oxytocin). Otherwise, you will have doubts about your relationship and the other person.</p>
<p><strong>Writing a wish/checklist list of the qualities you want in your ideal partner/relationship is always the first step, as well as your values for your relationships, personal and professional<br />
</strong><span style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">Write down what you want and what you don&#8217;t want, so when you meet that person, you&#8217;ll recognise them easily, and you won&#8217;t miss &#8216;<a href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/luck-factor/boats-helicopters-story-become-lucky-recognise-opportunities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the boats and helicopters</a>&#8216;.</span> Keep your checklist near your bed so you can update it when you&#8217;re inspired. Going to sleep is also a good time to prime yourself. You can use images or pictures instead of words – sometimes they can work even better than just words because they go directly to your right/emotional brain. A tip for finding an ideal partner: &#8220;Become the person you want to attract.&#8221; Love is a frequency and resonance. Read Rumi&#8217;s poem at the end of this blog.</p>
<p>Or if you don&#8217;t want a relationship, think about the love you have for yourself. All love starts with loving yourself first.</p>

<h3><strong>The benefits of grounding/earthing</strong></h3>
<p>Earthing, or grounding, involves making direct physical contact with the Earth’s surface to absorb negatively charged electrons, which are plentiful in the Earth&#8217;s surface. These free electrons help neutralise positively charged free radicals in the body, contributing to an internal balance similar to what one might experience in nature. The body, when grounded, remains at zero volts, matching the Earth&#8217;s electrical potential.</p>

<p><strong>Grounding During Sleep<br />
</strong>Grounding while sleeping provides the body with several hours of exposure to free electrons, a time when the body undergoes its most significant healing and regeneration processes.</p>
<p>The benefits of earthing are believed to largely stem from the continuous supply of free electrons absorbed from the Earth&#8217;s surface. These negatively charged electrons act as one of the most abundant natural antioxidants available. A recent paper by Oschman (published by The National Centre for Biotechnology Information) explains this phenomenon:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;It is well established, though not widely known, that the surface of the Earth possesses a limitless and continuously renewed supply of free or mobile electrons due to a global atmospheric electron circuit. Wearing shoes with insulating soles and sleeping in beds that are disconnected from the Earth&#8217;s electrical ground have isolated most people from the Earth’s electrical rhythms and free electrons. The most reasonable explanation for the benefits of earthing is that a direct connection with the Earth allows both diurnal electrical rhythms and free electrons to flow from the Earth to the body. It is suggested that the Earth’s electrical rhythms help regulate biological clocks that control sleep and activity, while the free electrons neutralise positively charged free radicals, which are a key factor in chronic inflammation. Current biomedical research links chronic inflammation to almost every modern chronic illness. This research provides a basis for earthing technologies, such as grounded bed sheets, that restore the body’s natural electrical connection to the Earth, even when going barefoot outdoors is not practical. These free electrons are proposed to act as natural antioxidants, helping to resolve chronic inflammation.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Cortisol, a hormone that regulates the body&#8217;s circadian rhythm, is one of the primary regulators of the sleep-wake cycle. A recent study on the effects of grounding during sleep found that participants who slept grounded were almost entirely synchronised with the Earth&#8217;s natural day-night cycle, while those who were disconnected from the Earth showed significant disruption to this rhythm.</p>
<p>Sleeping indoors isolates us from the Earth, disconnecting us from its natural electric current. Furthermore, the higher we are from the ground, the greater the electrical charge carried by the body. For every meter above ground level, approximately 300 volts of charge build up in the body. This means that sleeping in a second-storey bedroom can result in an average charge of 1,000 volts. Such a charge can lead to the accumulation of free radicals, oxidative stress, inflammation, and accelerated ageing. One study even found that individuals living in multi-storey homes had a 40% higher risk of stroke, with elevated body voltage identified as a contributing factor.</p>

Today we live in high-rise buildings, wear rubber and plastic-soled shoes and are surrounded by insulating materials such as plastics, synthetic fabrics, tar and asphalt that all disconnect us from the earths energy and block this natural connection.</p>

<p>We have deprived ourselves of the free electrons in the earth’s natural electric field, the nourishment that is right beneath our feet. We are missing out one of the most important sources of natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that we have available to us. To add to this we are also bathed in a sea of un-natural man-made pollutants and electronic radiation such as from household appliances, mobile phones, wi-fi, microwaves and cell towers, which bombard us continuously with excess free radical damage to our tissues and cells. This further depletes our body of electrons and further increases the need for negative charge to balance out the positive charge.</p>
<p>Current biomedical research has established chronic inflammation as the culprit behind almost every modern chronic illness. When grounded, the body is receiving a constant flow of free electrons, which is considered nature’s most powerful antioxidant. This allows the body to quickly neutralise any positively charged free radicals and maintain balance within body &#8211; the hallmark of chronic inflammation.</p>
<p>When we become grounded and reconnect with the Earth’s energy, our body is able to knock down these excess free radicals so that the body can heal and repair naturally, as it is meant to.  It is therefore imperative that we re-connect with this natural energy daily to maintain good health and counteract the damaging effects of modern living.</p>
<p><strong>The Impact of Grounding on Blood Circulation<br />
</strong>The diagram illustrates the effects of grounding on red blood cells. In this study, grounding demonstrated a natural blood-thinning effect by reducing blood viscosity and helping to separate red blood cells.</p>
<p>Red blood cells naturally carry a negative electric charge on their surface, which helps maintain proper spacing between the cells. A stronger negative charge enhances the cells&#8217; ability to repel one another, resulting in improved blood viscosity.</p>
<p>Grounding naturally increases the negative charge of red blood cells, promoting better repulsion and preventing them from clumping together. This leads to improved circulation, increased blood flow, and enhanced immune function. Blood flow is crucial for overall health, as it transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste products throughout the body. Additionally, blood carries white blood cells and killer T cells, which play key roles in preventing infections and eliminating toxins.</p>
<p>These findings further suggest that the human body is designed to maintain regular contact with the Earth, and that grounding may be essential for optimal health and proper bodily function.</p>
<p><strong>Earthing and the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)<br />
</strong>The autonomic nervous system (ANS) is crucial for maintaining the body&#8217;s proper functioning, regulating essential processes such as breathing, heart rate, digestion, sweating, and blood pressure reduction.</p>
<p>In one study, the ANS of 28 participants was measured in a double-blind experiment comparing earthing to sham-earthing. While both groups experienced an increase in parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activity due to relaxation, the earthing group showed double the increase in PNS function compared to the sham-earthed group after the 40-minute session. Additionally, the PNS activity of the earthing participants continued to rise even after the session ended, a result not observed in the sham-earthing group.</p>
<p><strong><em>Study: Earthing is Safe and Beneficial, Even for Premature Babies</em><br />
</strong>A 2017 study suggested that grounding may enhance the resilience of premature infants in incubators and cribs surrounded by electromagnetic fields (EMFs). The researchers observed a 95% reduction in skin voltage when the infants were grounded. Conducted by Pennsylvania State University, the study involved 26 preterm infants, demonstrating immediate and significant improvements in ANS function, which is critical for managing inflammatory and stress responses. Grounding improved vagal tone by 67%, potentially enhancing the infants&#8217; resilience to stress and reducing the risk of morbidity. Improved vagal tone indicates better functioning of the vagus nerve, which extends from the brainstem to the abdomen and plays a key role in connecting the heart, lungs, and digestive organs to the brain. <em>(Passi, R., Doheny, K.K., Palmer, C., et al.)</em></p>

<h1><strong>Is grounding / earthing safe?</strong></h1>
<p>For thousands of years, humans have had continuous contact with the Earth – shoes are a fairly new invention. There are no known major contradictions to <strong>natural</strong> grounding when walking barefoot on grass or beach.</p>
<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">WARNING</span>: </strong>So far, I&#8217;ve found only one contradiction to grounding and that is if people are on<strong> thinning blood medication</strong> (such as Coumadin, as it may thin the blood too much) they need to be careful and consult their doctor.</p>
<p>As always, <strong>consult your doctor</strong> if you have any underlying health conditions or using certain medication (blood thinners), use medical devices such as pacemakers, or are pregnant before starting grounding practices, including the use of grounding mats. Improper installation or use of grounding mats – especially in environments with high electromagnetic fields or faulty electrical systems – can increase the risk of electric shock, amplify electromagnetic exposure, or cause other adverse effects. Always ensure your grounding equipment is certified, check outlets for proper grounding, and monitor your body’s response to grounding practices.</p>
<p><strong>Grounding via electrical earth in your electrical system</strong><br />
If you&#8217;re going to set up the earthing via your electrical cables – check for <a href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/dirty-electricity/dirty-electricity">dirty electricity</a> and other factors (electrical wiring, metal spring mattresses, metal beds, etc) which can affect the grounding and if you can get the clean earthing effect. Also, in Northern America, electrical earthing is different from the European one and needs to be checked with a m<span id="productTitle" class="a-size-large">ains earth present tester</span>. To be on the safe side, I do recommend checking if the grounding effect is for you with something called body voltage check. Also, be mindful of how you feel when grounded via electrical earth in the electrical system. Grounding directly to the ground outside your home or workplace is ideal, but it still requires checking a specialised earth ground tester as well so you know if it really works. I personally don&#8217;t use any grounding mats – and don&#8217;t recommend a DIY approach to it. I do ground myself every day by having a 20-minute bath (in the morning and evening) and I&#8217;ve checked with the body voltage measurement that I am fully grounded in my bath. Also, people are different and can react differently to artificial grounding via earthing mats/sheets, etc (some couples sleeping in the same bed might have completely opposite reactions to artificial grounding via electrical cables for all kinds of reasons). Ideally,  you need to calibrate it onsite with body voltage measurements then you know for sure if it&#8217;s working and it&#8217;s for you. But if you feel it’s not making you sleep better – listen to your body – and stop using the electrical grounding mode.</p>

<p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">WARNING </span></strong><strong style="font-size: 16px;">Please be careful when using grounding mats.<br />
</strong>They can have negative effects if<br />
1) they are not installed properly, or<br />
2) if there is a lot of electrosmog in your environment.</p>
<p>While these grounding mats are designed to help with EMFs, there is a risk that they can actually attract and amplify electromagnetic fields, especially in high-EMI areas. In short, using grounding mats can risk channeling harmful currents, amplifying EMI exposure (since grounding mats in unshielded, high-EMF environments – such as near ungrounded appliances – can act as antennas, channeling induced AC or RF currents through your body), and failing during electrical faults, power surges or lightning strikes.</p>

<div dir="ltr">It’s also important to check the grounding effect with a body voltage meter or similar device before and after use to ensure the mat is working as intended.</div>

<div dir="ltr">Whenever possible, I recommend natural grounding methods, such as taking baths with Epsom salts or walking barefoot outdoors, instead of using grounding mats. I have two 20-min baths (with Espom salts) every day, one in the morning and one in the evening. <strong>I believe, it’s far more important to reduce electrosmog exposure in your home/workplace in the first place than it is to use grounding mats on regular bases.</strong></div>

<div class="">In short, natural earthing is universally good for most people (and there are other ways of earthing yourself &#8211; ie having a bath, for example, or waking barefoot on the ground, etc), but earthing using grounding mats/sheets needs to be checked and evaluated carefully before using. Be careful – if you have any adverse reactions just stop using the earthing mats.</div>

<p><strong>How and where to practice grounding<br />
</strong>When it comes to grounding, connecting any part of your skin to the Earth offers benefits. However, there is a specific area that holds great potential: the centre of the ball of your foot, known as Kidney 1 (K1) in acupuncture. Kidney 1 is an acupuncture point that has a conductive connection to all the acupuncture meridians in your body. Exercising barefoot outdoors is an excellent way to incorporate grounding into your daily routine. It not only allows you to connect with the Earth but also accelerates tissue repair and alleviates muscle pain associated with intense physical activity.</p>
<p>The ideal locations for <strong>walking barefoot</strong> are beaches near or in the water. Saltwater is an excellent conductor, and it enhances the grounding effect. Additionally, our bodies possess some conductivity due to the presence of charged ions (electrolytes) dissolved in water. Consequently, our blood and other body fluids act as good conductors.</p>
<p>A close second option is a <strong>grassy area</strong>, especially if it is covered with <strong>dew</strong> or <strong>bare soil</strong>. <span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>Ceramic tiles </strong><span style="color: #000000;">(I do recommend these for homes and workplaces)</span></span><span style="color: #000000;"> </span>and <strong>unsealed concrete</strong> are also good conductors, allowing electrons to pass through. However, painted concrete restricts the flow of electrons. Materials like asphalt, wood, rubber, and plastic are insulators that prevent the transfer of electrons and are unsuitable for barefoot grounding.</p>
<p>While any amount of grounding is beneficial, research indicates that it takes approximately<strong> 80 minutes</strong> for the Earth&#8217;s free electrons to reach your bloodstream and bring about the most significant advantages. Therefore, it is ideal to aim for <strong>80 to 120 minutes of grounding each day</strong> to reap the benefits of this practice fully. But any time, even a short grounding session, will have some benefit.</p>
<h3><strong>There are five basic ways to earth yourself to benefit from it<br />
</strong><span id="ctl00_tr_rptStory_ctl03_cslStory"></span></h3>
<p><span id="ctl00_tr_rptStory_ctl03_cslStory">Surfaces that allow for good grounding include sand, grass, bare dirt, untreated concrete, brick and ceramic tiles. The best results you get when the earth or surface is wet for the best conductivity. Leather-soled shoes also allow you to ground while walking, whereas rubber-soled shoes disconnect you from the earth and block beneficial electron transfer. <p><strong>1)</strong> <strong>Walk barefoot </strong>whenever you can (not very practical), but even touching a tree for a few minutes can make a difference. (If you can do your exercises outdoor on the grass &#8211; grounding helps too. I&#8217;ve had my Pilates personal training done in a park, and I felt a significant difference). Unfortunately, modern rubber shoe soles insulate us from the health benefit of earthing. Leather shoe soles are much better at conducting earth&#8217;s frequencies.</p>
<p>Touching metal water sockets or metal radiators will have a grounding effect since they&#8217;re usually grounded. Also, washing dishes will have a grounding effect because you&#8217;ll be in contact with water and sink, which is most likely grounded. I like washing dishes – it&#8217;s my meditation/mindfulness practice.</p>
<p>If you have a garden, you could make a labyrinth to walk around. Labyrinths can have healing, meditative properties, so combining walking barefoot in a labyrinth is a double whammy.</p>
<p>Another option, which I do under the right conditions is to walk barefoot on snow – only for a minute or so. Over the years, I&#8217;ve built up my tolerance to it, but I only do it on fluffy snow and when it&#8217;s not too cold and for a very short time.</p>
<p><strong>2)</strong> <strong>Earth your bed or your desk</strong> (requires some knowledge and testing equipment – a body voltage meter can determine how much electricity is induced when lying in bed or sitting in a chair and how much the electric charge is reduced by grounding. Also, checking the ground/earth wire in the electrical socket is essential for it to work well. Checking <a href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/dirty-electricity/dirty-electricity">dirty electricity</a> is important, too, since it can affect the grounding process. <strong>Read above if grounding/earthing is safe.</strong></p>
<p><strong>3)</strong> <strong>Have regular, 10-20min baths</strong> in the evening (my favourite). People who are electrosensitive discovered that they had fewer symptoms when they were having baths because they were naturally earthed. Please note that if your bath is plastic and the pipes are plastic, the grounding effect might be non-existent. Add some <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Westlab-Epsom-Resealable-Stand-Pouch/dp/B003V9M2ZS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1407226785&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=epsom+salts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Epsom salts </a>or <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Better-You-Magnesium-Original-Flakes/dp/B00477782K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1407226758&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=magnesium+bath+salts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">magnesium</a> (magnesium is depleted from our bodies when we get stressed) to your bath. Also, touching a radiator or a metal water tap will most likely have a grounding effect since most radiators and water taps are earthed.</p>

<p><strong>5) Ceramic tiles.</strong> If you&#8217;re building or redecorating your home or workplace – consider ceramic tiles, which, when grounded properly will provide a natural grounding surface so you can enjoy earthing at your home or workplace. I highly recommend it. I&#8217;ve tested many houses which have tiles and the earthing effect was sometimes stronger than in their gardens.</p>

<p><strong>Indoor grounding techniques<br />
</strong>In the past, walking barefoot and sleeping on the ground were common practices. However, modern living has distanced us from direct contact with the Earth. This disconnection can lead to an accumulation of electric charge in our bodies, which can have negative consequences. The farther we are from the ground, the higher our charge. This has been accurately calculated: for every meter (3.28 feet) above the ground, our bodies accumulate 300 volts of charge. If we find ourselves in an elevated indoor environment, such as a second-story bedroom, the average charge can reach 1,000 volts, potentially increasing the risk of health problems. <a href="https://bmcgeriatr.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/1471-2318-9-17" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Research from 2009</a> even discovered a 40% higher risk of stroke among individuals residing in multistory homes.</p>
<p>Fortunately, there are ways to ground ourselves while indoors or at higher elevations:<br />
<strong>1. Grounding pad or sheet:</strong> Use a grounding pad or sheet to connect your mattress to the ground while you sleep. This method ensures a direct connection between your body and the Earth.<br />
<strong>2. Grounding mat:</strong> Keep your bare feet on a grounding mat while working. Grounding mats are effective if you have access to a grounded electrical outlet, especially beneficial in high-rise buildings. A grounded outlet can be identified by its three-prong design, including a ground port at the bottom. Make sure your skin directly contacts the mat without any clothing barrier.<br />
<strong>3. Grounded yoga mat:</strong> Practice indoor yoga on a grounded yoga mat. <a href="https://www.scirp.org/Journal/PaperInformation.aspx?PaperID=55445#.VSqbt_nF_IM" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Research indicates that performing yoga on a grounded mat indoors</a> can help reduce blood viscosity and exercise-induced inflammation, providing similar benefits to walking barefoot outside.<br />
<strong>4. Faucet contact:</strong> While shaving or brushing your teeth, touch the faucet with one hand while using the other. This contact with a conductive element can help discharge accumulated charge.<br />
<strong>5. Airplane grounding:</strong> When flying, remove your shoes and rest your feet (bare or with socks) on the steel struts of the chair in front of you. This physical connection with the metal structure can help ground you during the flight.<br />
<strong>6. Ceramic tiles:</strong> if you have any ceramic tiles anywhere in your home/workplace, you&#8217;re most likely to be grounded automatically there when walking barefoot (but do check with the body voltage kit, just to be sure). Also, some types of other flooring material can have a grounding effect (obviously, this needs to be checked with the body voltage kit again), but wood and carpets most likely won&#8217;t ground you.</p>
<p>By implementing these grounding techniques, you can maintain a balanced electrical state even while indoors or at higher elevations, promoting well-being and potentially reducing health risks.</p>

<h3>History of grounding/earthing</h3>
<p>Clint Ober, author of <em><a class="body-link" href="http://buy.geni.us/Proxy.ashx?tsid=3927&amp;GR_URL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2FEarthing-Most-Important-Health-Discovery%2Fdp%2F1591202833%3Fascsubtag%3DES%7C4532621%7C1591202833" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" data-vars-item-name="BL-4532621-https://www.amazon.co.uk/Earthing-Most-Important-Health-Discovery/dp/1591202833#:~:text=Earthing%3A%20The%20Most%20Important%20Health%20Discovery%20Ever!&amp;text=In%20stock.,can%20readily%20connect%20to%20it." data-vars-event-id="c23">Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?</a></em> investigated the effect of wearing non-conductive synthetic-soled shoes on our connection to the earth’s negative charge. He was also aware of dumbing down our senses when wearing shoes. The soles of our feet have more than 200,000 receptors. This sensory information is used by our bodies to soften or stiffen our joints and alter our posture as a pro­tection mechanism against injury and to maximise the efficiency of our ­movement.</p>
<h3><span style="color: #ff0000;">SUMMARY</span></h3>
<p>Grounding/earthing has an antioxidant effect that helps alleviate inflammation in your body. When your body is grounded, you absorb large amounts of negative electrons in your body. Unhealthy lifestyle choices (sugar, smoking, electromagnetic smog, stress, high cholesterol, high uric acid levels) can make your blood hypercoagulable, i.e. thick and slow-moving, which increases the risk of having a blood clot or stroke. Earthing helps thin blood by improving its zeta potential – blood cells get a more negative charge, which in turn helps them repel each other to keep blood thin and less likely to clot. This process can significantly reduce the risk of stroke. Research suggests (Chevalier, et al 2012) that it takes about 80 minutes, or 40 minutes over two grounding periods, for the free electrons from the earth to reach your bloodstream and transform blood. So if you can ground yourself for about 1.5 to two hours to get the full effect. Walking barefoot is one way, but there are other ways too (see above), such as having a (long) bath, tiled flooring, etc.</p>
<h3><strong>Research on earthing/grounding</strong></h3>
<p>There are at least <strong>41 published studies</strong> specifically investigating the effects of grounding (earthing) on human physiology, health, and related outcomes<span class="whitespace-nowrap">.</span> This number is based on a comprehensive list compiled by the <a href="https://earthinginstitute.net/research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Earthing Institute</a>, which tracks both clinical and experimental research in this field.</p>
<p class="mol-para-with-font">Grounding health benefits have been known for more than 100 years (of course, early humans didn&#8217;t have shoes, so that was a default way of walking), firstly popularised by German back-to-nature movements in the 19th century. In the 20s, in America, doctors recommended sleeping while &#8216;grounded&#8217;, because they believed that charges in the air were stopping people from sleeping well. So they suggested that patients with insomnia should lie on the ground or use copper wires attached to grounded pipes to &#8216;connect&#8217; to the earth&#8217;s negatively charged particles.</p>
<p class="mol-para-with-font">The NHS and mental health charity Mind recommends grounding techniques, such as walks, to help people deal with flashbacks, nightmares or PTSD — with barefoot being optional.  &#8220;Walking outside (barefoot, if you want to) is one of a range of strategies we recommend to ground yourself.&#8221; said mental health nurse Jo Hemming. &#8220;Studies show grounding supports a reduction in anxiety and increases well-being and resilience. Practise and repetition is key, though, because it&#8217;s not an overnight cure.&#8221;</p>
<p>There is scientific support for grounding (41 studies), such as this 2011 study published in the Journal of Alternative Complementary Medicine (<a id="lnkReference" href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3154031/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alternative Complementary Medicine 2011 Apr; 17(4): 301–308.</a>), which states:</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;<em>Earthing of an electrically insulated human organism during night rest causes lowering of serum concentrations of iron, ionized calcium, inorganic phosphorus, and reduction of renal excretion of calcium and phosphorus.</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Earthing during night rest decreases free tri-iodothyronine and increases free thyroxine and thyroid-stimulating hormone. The continuous earthing of the human body decreases blood glucose in patients with diabetes.</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Earthing decreases sodium, potassium, magnesium, iron, total protein, and albumin concentrations while the levels of transferrin, ferritin, and globulins α1, α2, β, and γ increase. These results are statistically significant …</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Earthing the human body during relaxation and during physical activity is responsible for the increasing glucose utilization by the cells in NIDDM. Lack of contact with the Earth may cause opposite effects and may be the reason for several disorders (diabetes, obesity, and hypertension).</em></p></blockquote>
<blockquote><p><em>Our experiments have shown that contact of the human body with moistened surface of the Earth via a copper conductor can influence calcium–phosphate homeostasis. <p><strong>4. Set some new goals for yourself for the new year</strong><br />
Write it down by hand or on your mobile device. Name it 2014 GOALS or something similar that has meaning to you. A few days before the 1st of January it&#8217;s a good idea to remember all the things that happened to you in the previous year – remember in yin and yang terms &#8216;all is good&#8217;. I personally, just look at my photos on my iPhone and that usually brings all the memories&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>5. For prosperity you can put some brand new banknotes in your wallet.</strong><br />
Or better still, get a new wallet for the new year.</p>

<p><strong>6. Use mobile phone screen / wallpaper for feng shui rituals. </strong><br />
Your mobile phone is a perfect virtual feng shui environment for uploading images to help you to manifest what you want or what you&#8217;re focusing or working on. The same applies to your computer screen. Be careful how you use this powerful virtual environment. I once use some photos of tropical islands (as my screen saver) with the intention of going on a holiday there and in three months I ended up living in <a title="Barbados" href="http://barbados.org/index.html" target="_blank">Barbados</a> for one year.<br />

</strong>Take some photos of the activities of that day. Make it memorable. It will help to remember things at the end of 2014. In feng shui, remembering the past is very important. That&#8217;s the origins of feng shui and how it all started. Feng shui initially was used to find auspicious burial places to ensure that ancestors would rest in peace. The feng shui wisdom states that the bigger the past the bigger the future.</p>

As one of the top general and all-purpose feng shui tips, space clearing is the ideal way to finish the year and clear the way for new opportunities and adventures in 2014. Since you might be buying some new stuff for the new year, get rid of some old stuff before. Let go of the things that you don&#8217;t need to make space for new things to come into your life. <p><strong>At its simplest, and the most fundamental leve,l feng shui works like this:</strong></p>
<blockquote><p><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">FENG SHUI = INTENTION + ENERGY (relationship/connection) + RITUAL<span id="more-726"></span></span></strong></p></blockquote>
<h3><strong>Feng shui rituals</strong></h3>
<p>Percentage-wise, the importance of your intention (what you want) is 30%, your energy and connection is another 50%, and the ritual is only 20%. <strong>The ritual is the servant of your intention.</strong> Ultimately, it doesn&#8217;t matter what you do but HOW you do it. For example, if you want to improve your relationship or find a new partner, you could hang a chewing gum in the relationship corner of your bedroom, and it will work. Of course, it&#8217;s better to place something nice and beautiful and thematic, such as a heart prismatic crystal or a romantic picture. Be very clearabout what you want. You need to be specific enough and open at the same time about your goal and purpose.</p>
<h3><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">INTENTION:</span> Goals and purposes</strong></h3>
<p>Please note the <strong>difference between your goals and your purposes.</strong> For example, your goal might be to run a successful online business. But your purpose will be to 1) set up a website 2) optimise with SEO 3) build a brand 4) build a strong community online around your brand, etc, etc. So the goal is the final result, and the purpose is the steps you&#8217;ll take to get there. Another example: your goal is to win/finish the London Marathon, and your purpose is to run 30 minutes every morning for the next three months to prepare.</p>
<p><strong>SMART criteria</strong><br />
Learn how to set up a <a title="SMART criteria" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMART_criteria" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><strong>SMART purpose</strong></a> (<strong>S</strong>pecific + <strong>M</strong>easurable + <strong>A</strong>chievable + <strong>R</strong>eal + <strong>T</strong>imed) and write it down (which is always the first step in manifesting your intentions, from the virtual reality of your mind to your immediate physical reality) and then do some feng shui to optimise your environment to help you with that purpose. Knowing what you want and how is half of the success.</p>
<h3><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">ENERGY</span> Your energy (chi) and your relationship and connection to the life force</strong></h3>

<div>If your energy level is low, you might have trouble manifesting your goals. With a strong personal energy, you don&#8217;t have to put much effort into your intention or the feng shui ritual. Sometimes, a weak intention and minimal feng shui ritual work better since subliminally, you&#8217;re not so attached to it. Your energy is a link between your intention and the ritual. It is the relationship and the meaning-making between the virtual and physical worlds that will make it work.</div>

The front door is the transition area between your private life and public / work life. If you&#8217;re working from home it will still work since you&#8217;ll be doing it with a specific intention.</p>

<p><strong>1. Change the colour of the front door</strong><br />
There are different ways to decide on the colour for the door.<br />
• You can use the colour for the year (<span style="color: #b163a3;"><a title="Radiant orchid the colour for 2014" href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/feng-shui-colours/radiant-orchid-enigmatic-purple-is-the-colour-of-the-year-for-2014"><span style="color: #b163a3;">in 2014 it&#8217;s radiant orchid</span></a></span>)<br />
• You can calculate the energy for the career zone in the bagua for that year or month.<br />
• Or just follow your heart and decide on a colour that will energies you when you go out (and come in).<span id="more-650"></span></p>
<p><strong>2. Get a new doormat</strong><br />
Again you can use the above ways to decide on the colour or just find a doormat that means something. You can also place something meaningful underneath the doormat. In many cultures, people bury some coins (ideal number is eight so for example, eight 1$/£ coins) and offerings for spirits outside the house.</p>
<p><strong>3. Hang something on the door<br />
</strong>Temporarily, you can stick a photo / picture or something that will stimulate and energise your career. Classic images or metaphors for career zone are rivers since they symbolise movement and new positive energy. Avoid any images that are too dramatic ie waterfalls or turbulent waves, etc and on the other hand anything that is too still or stagnant. Read the feng shui tip 5 below.</p>
<p><strong>4. Hang a wind-chime above the door</strong><br />
Make sure it sounds nice and it&#8217;s not a nuisance. There are different types of windchimes and sound is one of the best ways to moderate the flow of energy (chi) in any environment. Depending on what you want to achieve you can use Feng Shui Five Element Theory to choose between different energies for your goals. Here&#8217;s the chart for all the elements and the corresponding materials for wind-chimes:<br />

<span style="color: #339966;"><strong>WOOD</strong> </span>= wooden or bamboo (green) windchimes<br />

<span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>EARTH</strong> </span>= ceramic (yellow) windchimes<br />
<span style="color: #808080;"><strong>METAL</strong> </span>= metal (silver or gold) winchimes<br />

<p><strong>5. Place some meaningful images or things around the door<br />
</strong>In Hindu culture people place images of <a title="Lakshmi as a feng shui remedy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakshmi" target="_blank">Lakshmi</a> and <a title="Ganesh used in Vastu and feng shui" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh" target="_blank">Ganesh</a> for protection and prosperity as part of <a title="Vastu Shastra a Hindu version of feng shui" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vastu_shastra" target="_blank">Vastu Shastra </a>practice which is a Hindu version of feng shui. Chinese hang strings of coins around the door and place <a title="Lucky cats a feng shui remedy for prosperity" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_cat" target="_blank">lucky cats</a> (I like this <a title="Solar powered lucky cat for feng shui prosperity" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powered-Chinese-Lucky-Fortune-Cat/dp/B002YOJ4UC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387925371&amp;sr=8-6&amp;keywords=lucky+cat" target="_blank">solar powered lucky cat</a>).  Greeks hang the <a title="Evil eye for feng shui protection" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_eye" target="_blank">evil eye symbol for protection</a>. In the west people hang the <a title="Horseshoe as a feng shui remedy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe" target="_blank">horseshoe</a> above the door and the &#8216;correct&#8217; way is to hang them like the letter U to keep the prosperity in like a container.</p>
