<p><strong>Feng shui &#8216;nudges&#8217;</strong><br />
Professor Richard Thaler who has won the 2017 Nobel prize in economics for his contributions to behavioural economics, confirms that environmental cues can shape people&#8217;s behaviours. He championed the concept of “nudging” people, for example, through subtle changes in government policy, to do things that are in their long-term self-interest, such as saving for a pension. Another application of his &#8216;nudge theory&#8217; is positioning of healthy foods on eye level in supermarkets (therefore &#8220;nudge&#8221; people towards the purchase) which in Thaler&#8217;s opinion is a better way of influencing people to eat healthy as opposed to government health campaigns. Market research tests have shown that placing healthier foods on a higher shelf boosts sales. Nudge theory has many (feng shui) applications, even in public toilets where fake plastic houseflies were stuck on the men&#8217;s toilet urinals which was intended to &#8220;improve the aim&#8221;. A classic feng shui nudge &#8216;remedy&#8217; that can alter our thinking and behaviour is to have a mirror in the kitchen or dining room with a confirmed research of 32% reduction in consumption of unhealthy food because one becomes self-conscious or self-reflective (no pan intended).</p>
<p>In short, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nudge_theory" target="_blank" rel="noopener">nudge theory</a> is based on a simple assumption that people will often choose what is easiest or easily accessible over what might be wisest. People don&#8217;t always make rational choices, which contradicts the classical economic theory. Thaler and Sunstein defined their concept as: &#8220;<i>A nudge, as we will use the term, is any aspect of the <a title="Choice architecture" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice_architecture" target="_blank" rel="noopener">choice architecture</a> that alters people&#8217;s behavior in a predictable way without forbidding any options or significantly changing their economic incentives. To count as a mere nudge, the intervention must be easy and cheap to avoid. Nudges are not mandates. Putting fruit at eye level counts as a nudge. Banning junk food does not.&#8221;</i></p>

<p><strong>4. Set some new goals for yourself for the new year</strong><br />
Write it down by hand or on your mobile device. Name it 2014 GOALS or something similar that has meaning to you. A few days before the 1st of January it&#8217;s a good idea to remember all the things that happened to you in the previous year – remember in yin and yang terms &#8216;all is good&#8217;. I personally, just look at my photos on my iPhone and that usually brings all the memories&#8230;</p>

Your mobile phone is a perfect virtual feng shui environment for uploading images to help you to manifest what you want or what you&#8217;re focusing or working on. The same applies to your computer screen. Be careful how you use this powerful virtual environment. I once use some photos of tropical islands (as my screen saver) with the intention of going on a holiday there and in three months I ended up living in <a title="Barbados" href="http://barbados.org/index.html" target="_blank">Barbados</a> for one year.<br />

That&#8217;s the origins of feng shui and how it all started. Feng shui initially was used to find auspicious burial places to ensure that ancestors would rest in peace. The feng shui wisdom states that the bigger the past the bigger the future.</p>

Since you might be buying some new stuff for the new year, get rid of some old stuff before. Let go of the things that you don&#8217;t need to make space for new things to come into your life. The front door is the transition area between your private life and public / work life. If you&#8217;re working from home it will still work since you&#8217;ll be doing it with a specific intention.</p>

<p><strong>1. Change the colour of the front door</strong><br />
There are different ways to decide on the colour for the door.<br />
• You can use the colour for the year (<span style="color: #b163a3;"><a title="Radiant orchid the colour for 2014" href="http://www.fengshuilondon.net/feng-shui-colours/radiant-orchid-enigmatic-purple-is-the-colour-of-the-year-for-2014"><span style="color: #b163a3;">in 2014 it&#8217;s radiant orchid</span></a></span>)<br />
• You can calculate the energy for the career zone in the bagua for that year or month.<br />
• Or just follow your heart and decide on a colour that will energies you when you go out (and come in).<span id="more-650"></span></p>
<p><strong>2. Get a new doormat</strong><br />
Again you can use the above ways to decide on the colour or just find a doormat that means something. You can also place something meaningful underneath the doormat. In many cultures, people bury some coins (ideal number is eight so for example, eight 1$/£ coins) and offerings for spirits outside the house.</p>
<p><strong>3. Hang something on the door<br />
</strong>Temporarily, you can stick a photo / picture or something that will stimulate and energise your career. Classic images or metaphors for career zone are rivers since they symbolise movement and new positive energy. Avoid any images that are too dramatic ie waterfalls or turbulent waves, etc and on the other hand anything that is too still or stagnant. Read the feng shui tip 5 below.</p>
<p><strong>4. Hang a wind-chime above the door</strong><br />
Make sure it sounds nice and it&#8217;s not a nuisance. There are different types of windchimes and sound is one of the best ways to moderate the flow of energy (chi) in any environment. Depending on what you want to achieve you can use Feng Shui Five Element Theory to choose between different energies for your goals. Here&#8217;s the chart for all the elements and the corresponding materials for wind-chimes:<br />

<span style="color: #339966;"><strong>WOOD</strong> </span>= wooden or bamboo (green) windchimes<br />
<span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>FIRE</strong></span> = wooden wind chime painted red<br />
<span style="color: #ff9900;"><strong>EARTH</strong> </span>= ceramic (yellow) windchimes<br />
<span style="color: #808080;"><strong>METAL</strong> </span>= metal (silver or gold) winchimes<br />

<p><strong>5. Place some meaningful images or things around the door<br />
</strong>In Hindu culture people place images of <a title="Lakshmi as a feng shui remedy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakshmi" target="_blank">Lakshmi</a> and <a title="Ganesh used in Vastu and feng shui" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesh" target="_blank">Ganesh</a> for protection and prosperity as part of <a title="Vastu Shastra a Hindu version of feng shui" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vastu_shastra" target="_blank">Vastu Shastra </a>practice which is a Hindu version of feng shui. Chinese hang strings of coins around the door and place <a title="Lucky cats a feng shui remedy for prosperity" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucky_cat" target="_blank">lucky cats</a> (I like this <a title="Solar powered lucky cat for feng shui prosperity" href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Powered-Chinese-Lucky-Fortune-Cat/dp/B002YOJ4UC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1387925371&amp;sr=8-6&amp;keywords=lucky+cat" target="_blank">solar powered lucky cat</a>).  Greeks hang the <a title="Evil eye for feng shui protection" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_eye" target="_blank">evil eye symbol for protection</a>. In the west people hang the <a title="Horseshoe as a feng shui remedy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horseshoe" target="_blank">horseshoe</a> above the door and the &#8216;correct&#8217; way is to hang them like the letter U to keep the prosperity in like a container.</p>

Your grandmother might have told you to chew every mouthful of food at least 100 times to stay healthy. The father of Lino, <strong>Antoni Stanchich was in a concentration camp</strong> in Germany during the second world war and there wasn&#8217;t much food to eat and he intuitively discovered that chewing water (because it was so cold) would give him energy. Initially, he would chew each mouth of water 50 times and notice that the more he chew it the more energy he would get. Then he started to chew all his food, 150 times, sometimes 300 times each mouthful. He believed that the magic number for chewing was 150 times. To cut a long story short, people were dying of starvation daily in that camp and Antonio believes that this simple <strong>act of chewing helped him to survive</strong>. In fact, he and his two friends who were also practising chewing were the only people to survive from his original crew.</p>
<h3><strong>Sphere of influence </strong></h3>

• Become vegetarian or vegan<br />
• Stop keeping unhealthy snacks where you can easily see them<br />
