Ultra violet promotes healing and expression – it energises and inspires. A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet relates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking (a favourite colour of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright) that points us toward the new future.

Colour of the year 2018 – Ultra Violet

Ultra violet is a complex and simply contemplative colour at the same time. It’s complex “because it takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed — blue and red — and brings them together to create something new.” Ultra Violet implies the mysteries of the cosmos, the support discoveries to go beyond where we are now. It is symbolic of infinite possibilities as the skies above us.

“The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.” – Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute

This enigmatic purple has also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality and artistic brilliance. For example, musical icons such as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of ultraviolet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of ultraviolet expresses experimentation and non-conformity, encouraging individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, pushing limits through creative outlets.

Spiritual colour for your spiritual feng shui
Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attributed to ultraviolet. The colour is often connected with mediation and mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned illumination in meditation or contemplative spaces or other gathering settings energises the communities that meet there and inspire spiritual connection.
In the past, purple has been highly valued because it’s burdensome production and its association with wealth, power and royalty. Apparently, 16th century Queen Elizabeth I of England didn’t permit anyone but close relatives of the royal family to wear purple. Prince Harry and his fiancée, Meghan Markle should take notice.

In ancient times, a coveted purple dye was made from the mucus of sea snails in the Phoenician city of Tyre, and Tyre engaged in trade with Jerusalem, that long-prized city that again finds itself in the news. Also, the biblical Lydia was a seller of purple.

Wellness and healing
Think amethyst crystals and healing. The word amethyst comes from the Greek meaning ‘without drunkenness’ and amethyst is believed to protect one from poison. It’s also known to reduce stress and help balance emotions.

Eat purple vegetables and fruit in 2018

Start eating purple foods such as purple grapes, eggplant, figs, passion fruit, purple sweet potatoes (molokal), raisins, plums and dried plums, new purple Asian radish ‘bluemoon’ as well as berries (blackberries, blueberries, elderberries, cranberries, chokeberries and bilberries) which count as purple foods. Purple foods are some of the richest sources of anthocyanins. Matthew Plowman, a Nutrition Adviser at Cardiff Sports Nutrition, acknowledges that purple foods are full of natural health benefits, “The benefits of antioxidants have long been discussed, but they are known to fight disease, keep you looking younger, reduce inflammation and are good for your heart – basically, why wouldn’t you eat them?”

For 2018, Ms. Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute said, “We wanted to pick something that brings hope and an uplifting message.”

Psychology of violet colour
The colour’s name is derived from the violet flower. Violet and purple look similar, but violet is a spectral colour, with its own set of wavelengths on the spectrum of visible light, with a dominant wavelength of approximately 380-450 nanometers. Purple is a polychromatic colour, made by combining blue and red. Amethyst is a notable violet crystal, its colour arising from iron and other trace elements in quartz.
Violet blends the qualities of stability of blue and the energy of red. Violet is linked with royalty and symbolizes power, nobility, luxury, and ambition. It communicates wealth and extravagance. Violet connotes wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.

On the other hand, while violet is the symbolic colour of humility in the Catholic Church, it has precisely the opposite meaning in the public view. A European poll in 2000 showed it was the colour commonly linked with vanity. As a rare and attention-centred colour in nature, it is seen as a colour of individualism and extravagance. Studies show that violet and purple are the colours associated with ambiguity and ambivalence.

There are two basic colour trends for 2016: colours according to feng shui and the Pantone color/s of the year 2016.

Feng shui colour trends for 2016: red
2016 is the year of the fire monkey (starting on 8 February 2016) so the key colours according to feng shui 5-element system are red and shades of red, ie pink, rose (see the Pantone colours of 2016 below) purple, lilac, burgundy. To connect to the energy of fire monkey via the fire element and it’s colour just get some brand new red items for your home, for example, red towels, red door mat, and for yourself ie red clothes, as well as candles which represent fire element. If red colour is not your colour – read below about the Pantone colour trends for 2016.

2016 – The Year of Fire Monkey – Red Colour of 2016 – Read top feng shui tips 2016

Pantone colour trends for 2016: rose quartz and serenity
Pantone colors of the year 2016 are rose quartz and serenity. These colours symbolise and embody key qualities that we’ll need so much in 2016 (after quite a turbulent 2015): balance, calmness, wellness and tranquility. Mindfulness and well-being are huge trends and these colours will offer much needed reassurance and security. When combined together rose quartz and serenity transcend duality and balance a warmer embracing rose with the cooler tranquil blue, representing connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. Rose quartz is a good alternative to feng shui red colour of 2016, if red is not your colour and serenity offers a good balance for the fiery monkey’s character.

Feng shui tips for 2013

1. Emerald green is the colour of 2013 – use this colour for any feng shui rituals. Design code for emerald green: C86 M8 Y57 K0; R0 G157 B134; Hex: #28AE7B or #009D86 (according to hex code generator).

2. Wear something brand new (scarf, socks, underwear, etc) in emerald green colour. OR just set your smart phone screen with this colour – just download this file to your smartphone Emerald Green Colour of 2013 If you have an iPhone: 1. access this page on your iPhone 2. click the link – it will open a new window with the full image 3. touch and hold the image and from options choose Save Image 4. go to your Photos and touch it and choose Use as Wallpaper option
3. Get a new wallet for 2013 to boost your wealth and prosperity. Again you could try to find one that is emerald green. If you’re happy with the existing wallet then just put a photo of emeralds inside or the actual emerald stone itself.
4. Get a new door mat for 2013. If it’s appropriate for the design of your home or office you could get one that is emerald green or just green.
5. To space clear your home or office: clean all door knobs. Another way to space clear your home/office/room/area is to get this space clearing and protection mist and spray it in all corners of every room.
6. Spend some time and dream about what you want to manifest in 2013. One idea is to write your dream list in a form of a bagua i.e. nine squares (magic square) with all the key aspects of life which are: 1. career 2. relationships / marriage 3. family 4. wealth 5. health 6. helpful friends / travel / clients 7. projects / children / creativity 8. knowledge and wisdom / education 9. success / reputation / spiritual / peace of mind. Manifestation in the past years was governed by force as a creative power. The future manifestations will be guided by ‘allowance’. As Lao Tzu pointed out: “The Master allows things to happen.” Start by allowing yourself and others to be and to become what and who we’re supposed to become.

Turquoise transports you to an exciting, tropical paradise while offering a sense of protection and healing in stressful times.

Turquoise, combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of colour,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a colour of deep compassion and healing, and a colour of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of colour word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a colour that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other colour in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens.

In fashion, Turquoise makes a statement that can look elegant and dressy in fine silk and gemstones, or casual and fun in cotton and athletic apparel. Because of its versatility, Turquoise is a great accent colour in jewellery, purses, shoes, hair accessories and even nail polish for women, and ties, shirts and sportswear for men.
