The Venus Project devised by an American futurist and social engineer Jacque Fresco, is a futuristic vision of humanity and life on the Earth based on the resource-based economy as opposed to a money-based economy. If /when this happens you might choose to live in one of these futuristic cities and homes which are fully feng shui-compliant with lots of curves, natural materials, sustainable and ecological – healthy for people and the planet.
“… this visionary idea of a future society has many characteristics in common with the utopia. … the word utopia carries a double meaning, since in Greek it can mean both the good place (eutopia) and the nonexisting place (outopia). A good place is precisely what Fresco has devoted his life to describing and fighting for.”
Morten Grønborg of Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies, about the Venus Project
Watch the documentary on this project below – The Choice is Ours.
The first part is a bit depressing because it talks about the current state of things based on greed, money, false democracy and wars for resources. The second part is more optimistic, charting possibilities based on shared resources and technological advances which will make work, money and worry about lack of resources obsolete. Interestingly enough, the latest book by Daniel Susskind, How To Thrive in a World Without Work predicts the world without work due to automation, robotics and AI. The Venus Project’s tagline says it all: Beyond Politics Poverty and War and offers an alternative model for a sustainable future. Whether humanity will shift itself to the next level where the current problems are resolved depends on the choices we all make. As Einstein eloquently stated, “The significant problems we face can not be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” More info on The Venus Project
